Gov. Eric Holcomb announced the launch of Skillful Indiana on Thursday morning, along with Skillful CEO Beth Cobert, Markle Foundation CEO and President Zoe Baird, and Microsoft Philanthropies leader Mary Snapp.
The college will open adjacent to the Marian campus in Indianapolis, but the institutions will study whether it makes sense to expand to other areas of the state. One location that will be studied is Saint Joseph’s closed campus in Rensselaer.
The farm can produce up to 600 kilowatts of power and is expected to generate 85 percent of the electricity used by the entire district.
The decision comes about 10 years after the push began to rename the Wildermuth Intramural Center.
The building also will include flexible classrooms and chemistry laboratories, and give students access to a prototyping laboratory, laser-cutting devices, machine tools and a woodworking shop.
