The Athenaeum Foundation said yesterday that the grant will support a development director for two years as the foundation looks to projects that range from tuck-pointing bricks, at a potential cost of $250,000, to repairing windows. The building at 401 E. Michigan St. also needs renovations to become handicapped-accessible.
The building was built in the 1890s to promote German cultural, athletic, music and dining clubs. Today, it hosts the Rathskeller restaurant, a YMCA, the American Cabaret Theater and several ballrooms.
