a steam pipe burst.
Wishard’s trauma center continued to deal with emergencies, but the non-emergency surgical
department was closed.
The steam pipe burst late Thursday, making it impossible for staff members to sterilize
tools used in surgery. Repairs to the pipe were being made Friday.
Hospital officials say the burst pipe is an
example of the infrastructure problems that are prompting plans for a new facility.
Wishard is seeking approval
in a Nov. 3 Marion County referendum to issue an estimated $613 million in public bonds for the project.
