leaving office before becoming a Statehouse lobbyist.
The South Bend Democrat also wants lobbyists to report gifts
of more than $50 given to legislators and candidates, instead of the $100 reporting requirement currently in place. And Bauer’s
proposal would restrict companies that win major state contracts from donating to state office holders.
Bauer said
Tuesday the new rules would help restore public trust in the legislative process while making the rules more clear as lobbying
and Statehouse issues become more complex.
Bauer said he’ll push the changes in the legislative session that begins
in January.
