The last day of work for those being let go is Dec. 31. Forty-one motor carrier inspectors will keep their jobs.
State police spokesman 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten blamed the layoffs on the state’s financial troubles.
The division is responsible for inspecting large trucks and school buses. The inspectors are civilians who don’t carry weapons. The division is based in Indianapolis, but inspectors live throughout the state.
