On Thursday, Wishard officials shuttled nearly 300 people to the new hospital’s site between 10th and Michigan streets on the west side of the IUPUI campus for a tour, and then staged and an informational meeting and networking event for minority-, women- and veteran-owned contractors.
On Tuesday, Wishard leaders gave 400 interested building trades leaders their instructions for submitting bids.
The first part of the hospital project will be construction of a 2,300-space parking garage. That project, which begins in March, will employ 315 workers next year and another 524 in 2011.
The hospital itself will be a 1.2-million-square-foot facility, which will include 315 patient beds, 18 operating rooms, 12 birthing rooms and a 90-bed emergency department. Wishard will also construct an ambulatory clinic building, an administrative office building and a central utility plant on the site.
The entire Wishard project will employ 4,400 workers. It is scheduled to be completed in December 2013.
