operation to the Ray Skillman dealer group.
Terms of the deal, which took place earlier this month, were not disclosed.
The former Reeves location at 1250 U.S. 31 South has been converted to become the new home of neighboring Ray Skillman
Performance Ford.
The move gives Skillman Ford more room to grow, said general manager Dave Everett.
“We
were able to put the majority of the Reeves employees to work,” he added.
Meanwhile, Skillman’s old
Ford location at 1300 U.S. 31 South now houses Skillman’s southside Hyundai operation that had been at 8420 U.S. 31
South.
Skillman’s GMC store at 8424 U.S. 31 South will take aboard Reeves’ former Buick inventory,
giving Ray Skillman an upscale brand lost when General Motors killed the Oldsmobile line he sold several
years ago. GM also is phasing out the Pontiac brand.
Skillman is among local auto empires
that have grown amid the disappearance of several long-time dealers, most of whom fell victim to the
declining fortunes of automakers.
Struggling Chrysler this year severed ties with long-time
Dodge dealers Kevin Belz and Don Palmer, though they still sell used vehicles at their former Dodge sites.
Crossroads
Chrysler Jeep also has closed in recent years, along with Bud Wolf Chevrolet, Payton Wells Chevrolet and Sharp
Ford.
