Muted applause and boos came from the crowd as the district’s school board voted 6-1 Tuesday night for a plan using
the current Anderson High School building for grades 10-12 starting next fall. The current Highland High School will house
grades 7-9.
The board, however, didn’t decide whether the unified school would keep the Anderson Indians nickname
and red and green colors.
Superintendent Felix Chow said suggestions from the public included the name Anderson
Highland Heights to honor both schools as well as Madison Heights High School, which closed in 1997.
The district
also is closing four elementary schools because its enrollment has declined to about 9,200 students from 10,400 five years
ago.
