State
police recently announced that the post about 75 miles south of Indianapolis will be closed within about four months and its
responsibilities transferred to the post in Versailles. They said the change was being driven by technology and efficiency.
Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman wants State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell to attend a city council meeting to
answer questions about the decision. Luedeman says Whitesell told him that state police couldn’t justify keeping the post
open when it serves only three counties. City Councilman Mike Jordan says he doesn’t believe state police gave enough thought
to the decision.
