Weekly columnist Bruce Hetrick won first place in the best bylined commentary category for his column, “Standing face to face with the end of the universe,” which is reprinted on page46.
IBJ won a second place award for overall design among large-market tabloids and came away with another second place award for best recurring feature for the monthly Women in Business section, edited by Special Projects Editor Kathy Maeglin.
The awards were announced June 12 at the Alliance’s summer conference in Detroit.
The contest drew 689 entries from 60 publications and was judged by 33 faculty members from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. The Alliance is a not-for-profit organization representing 72 independent magazine and newspaper members in North America and Australia.
