Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is calling on Indiana House Democrats to act on a bill passed by the Senate that would
place new guidelines on redistricting.
The bill would require that new legislative maps to be drawn by lawmakers next year respect county and township lines, preserve
traditional neighborhoods and communities, and create simple, compact districts.
The Senate passed the bill 47-1, but Democratic House Speaker Patrick Bauer of South Bend has called it a distraction. It
has been sitting idle in the House Rules Committee.
Rokita is urging people to contact Bauer and demand that the committee act on the bill and send it to the full House for
action. He says Hoosier voters can't wait another year for redistricting reform.
