Indiana lawmakers have taken another step in advancing legislation that supporters say will give a boost to Indiana's
renewable energy movement.
So-called "net metering" bills unanimously cleared Indiana House and Senate panels Thursday after earlier clearing
the opposite chambers, where they had originated.
The bills would expand the rules under which customers of investor-owned utilities get credit for excess power they generate
from wind, solar and other clean-energy systems.
Supporters want the rules expanded to allow more customer classes to get credit for far higher amounts of excess power they
generate.
Hoosier Environmental Council executive director Jesse Kharbanda says lawmakers are starting to recognize renewable energy's
potential for cost-savings and job creation.
