In response to “Rolling out a heated carpet,” [in the Feb. 15 Focus section], to quote the article: “To
address concerns over people’s reluctance to walk two blocks, [Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association
CEO Don] Welsh wants to eventually install a motorized conveyor, which would substantially increase the cost.”
Every day there are articles in newspapers and magazines and news reports on TV about obesity and what a problem it has become
and what we need to do to overcome it. Yet Welsh is proposing to spend taxpayer money so people don’t have to walk two
blocks.
I think the public is smart enough to not support this. It is our tax money and it needs to be spent wisely—not
foolishly on a motorized conveyor so people can be lazy. We will be doing them a favor by making them walk!
