Three Indiana companies, including two based in Indianapolis, have been named to Fortune magazine’s annual
"World’s Most Admired Companies" list.
The rankings will appear in the magazine’s March 15 issue.
Brightpoint Inc. and WellPoint Inc., both based in Indianapolis, made the list of the most admired companies, as did Cummins
Inc. in Columbus.
Brightpoint, a mobile device distributor, ranked third worldwide in the “Wholesalers: Electronics” category.
Health insurer WellPoint placed third in the “Insurance & Managed Care” category.
Cummins notched a fifth place in the “Industrial & Farm Equipment” class.
Two other Indiana companies also are recognized, as “contenders,” or runners up.
Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. placed 11th in the “Pharmaceuticals” division and Warsaw-based Zimmer Holdings
Inc. ranked eighth in the “Medical Equipment” category.
Fortune said more companies responded to the 2010 survey than in any other year. A total of 667 companies from 33
countries submitted information.
Executives, directors and analysts are asked to rate companies in their own industry, on nine criteria, ranging from investment
value to social responsibility.
