The state highway department has opened what it calls an express lane on Interstate 465 as work starts on a project to widen
the highway on the north side of Indianapolis.
The lane opened Monday for eastbound traffic on I-465 from U.S. 31 (Meridian Street) to just past the Allisonville Road interchange.
Traffic using the far-left lane will be separated by a concrete barrier from other traffic and won't be able to use the
Keystone Avenue or Allisonville Road exits.
State highway officials say they hope the express lane will help traffic flow as work is done this year on a $73 million
project that will add a fourth lane in each direction on that stretch of I-465.
