Ash from a volcano’s eruption in Iceland has postponed the Indiana Economic Development Corp.’s European trade
mission.
IEDC was scheduled
to lead a group including five of the state’s biggest economic development organizations, Rolls-Royce North America
and Duke Energy on a job- and investment-attraction mission from Saturday through May 1. But the delegation's flight to
Germany was cancelled due to the volcano.
The team already has missed its chance to attend the four-day Hannover Messe Trade show, a global exhibition focused on renewable
and conventional power generation, transmission and distribution. IEDC spokeswoman Blair West said officials from IEDC’s
field office in Germany attended the conference in place of the local delegates.
IEDC still hopes to salvage the second half of its trip if it can reschedule its flight and depart Tuesday for its planned
second leg in Italy and final leg in the United Kingdom. If not, West said, IEDC will return to the drawing board and organize
another European trade mission later this year.
Other economic development groups in the trade mission include Indianapolis Economic Development Inc., Indy Partnership,
Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and the Columbus Indiana Economic Development Board.
