Longtime entrepreneur and investor Robert Compton will receive TechPoint’s 2010 Trailblazer Award for his contributions to the state’s high-tech sector, the organization announced Monday morning.

Compton has been involved in launching and supporting several companies, including Software Artistry, Aprimo, ExactTarget and Interactive Intelligence. He is the founder and CEO of Indianapolis-based Vontoo, which provides permission-based phone messaging to universities and other groups.

“When you try to chart the progress of Indiana’s technology sector over the last two decades, most roads seem to lead back to Bob Compton,” Jim Jay, TechPoint’s president and CEO, said in a prepared statement.

Compton will receive the honor at TechPoint’s annual Mira Awards program, which is set for May 15 at the Westin downtown.

TechPoint is a part of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership’s initiatives focused on the state’s fastest-growing economic clusters.
