The new home for the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute that’s rising from the ground at IUPUI must do a lot of
things well.

The $20 million, 77,000-square-foot building will serve as a transition between traditional, red brick buildings to the north
and contemporary limestone to the east. It must also harmonize with projects anticipated to the south and west.

Perhaps most important, it’s the base from which the Department of Ophthalmology in the Indiana University School of
Medicine hopes to spring into the top echelon of ophthalmology institutes.

The Glicks earmarked $20 million for the building and $10 million to hire scientists.

Inside spaces are laid out to encourage both formal and informal mixing of researchers and clinical ophthalmologists in order
to spark innovation.

The building is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.
