Porter hospital officials in Valparaiso say the last step to be completed is an archaeological and bat survey required by
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Porter County Plan Commission approved the plan for the new hospital Wednesday. Two of the nine commissioners voted against
the plan, citing concerns over drainage.
Community Health Systems plans to build the five-story, 250-bed hospital at the corner of U.S. 6 and Indiana 49. Construction
is expected to cost about $225 million.
