Some Indiana farmers are weighing whether to replant fields stung by late spring frosts that damaged crops after farmers
enjoyed weeks of ideal planting conditions.

Purdue corn specialist Bob Nielsen says the recent frosts have caused mostly cosmetic damage to crops, but some fields experienced
damage serious enough that they must be replanted.

Soybeans are more susceptible to frost damage than corn because unlike corn the points of growth on beans are all above ground
and exposed to cold temperatures.

The cool, wet weather and occasional frosts of the past few weeks followed warm, dry conditions in April that allowed planting
to proceed at its fastest pace since 2004.

Purdue's weekly crop report says 86 percent of Indiana's corn crop and 46 percent of its soybeans had been planted
as of Sunday.
