Indiana's latest effort to cut spending will leave the state office that provides copies of birth and death certificates
open to the public only four days a week.
Starting this week, the State Vital Records Office's walk-in service will be closed on Mondays. The walk-in service will
remain open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
State Registrar Erin Kellam says the walk-in service gets about 200 visitors per week seeking vital records, with about two
dozen of those coming in on a Monday.
People born in Indiana will still be able to get copies of birth and death certificates on Mondays at the health department
in the county they were born in, or the county where the death occurred.
