An indoor amusement center at Lafayette Square Mall could be sold to a Springfield, Mo.-based company negotiating to take over the space occupied by Xscape.

America’s Incredible Pizza Company, a 1950s-themed family entertainment center, said it could have a deal finalized as soon as Wednesday. The company is negotiating with an undisclosed party that would own the site under a franchise agreement.

“If a deal is struck, residents around the Lafayette [Square Mall] area will see the Xscape facility transformed with new ownership, management, employees and the company’s signature menu items on an all-new buffet,” said Rick Barsness, CEO of America’s Incredible Pizza Company, in a prepared statement.

The 75,000-squure-foot Xscape amusement center opened in December 2008. It is facing legal challenges after the family of a 5-year-old boy who fell off a teacup ride filed suit in March against Indianapolis-based Zoom Entertainment LLC, the amusement park’s owner.

The suit claims Zoom Entertainment failed to inspect and test the ride.

America’s Incredible Pizza Company said a complete safety inspection will be performed by an official of the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Organization to recertify all rides and attractions at the facility

The company said it enforces a dress code and does not sell alcohol or allow smoking at its locations. It plans to remove a bar at Xscape if the deal is approved.

The Missouri chain has a dozen locations, including one near Greenwood Park Mall.
