A Bloomington task force is looking into ways to better serve the city's homeless, including creating a year-round shelter
that would fill in gaps from other service providers.
Task force member Jim Riley says the city lacks a weekend day shelter and a permanent, year-round shelter that accepts people
who are using alcohol or drugs and those who don't wish to sign up for some sort of case management program.
Two existing shelters could be operating on limited time. Riley says the Interfaith Winter Shelter plans to stay open one
more winter, and he isn't sure if a newly opened summer shelter plans to continue beyond this year.
The task force was spun off a recent Homelessness Summit attended by representatives from churches, local government and
social service agencies.
