The grants announced Monday include $5.9 million for Hammond High School, $5.8 million for Glenwood Middle School, $2.2 million
for Indianapolis Metropolitan High School and $1.6 million for the Challenge Foundation Academy.
Schools Superintendent Dr. Tony Bennett says the four schools were picked from 16 applicants.
He says the four "developed plans detailing bold and innovative approaches to improve student achievement."
The grants come under the U.S. Education Department's Title I program.
The Indiana agency says it will make three or four more awards in the next several weeks.
