Richmond Power & Light officials say they've given up on a plan to capture methane gas from a landfill and convert
it to electric power.
General manager Steve Saum says the utility determined that the Richmond Landfill didn't make enough methane gas to make
the venture profitable.
Richmond Power & Light partnered with the Richmond Sanitary District in 2003, when power company officials first installed
equipment at the landfill.
The sanitation district now has to repay the power company more than $1 million for equipment installed at the landfill.
Sanitary district officials say they'll see if another company wants to try and capture the gas at the landfill.
