Indianapolis-based Herff Jones Inc. said it will close a printing plant in eastern Pennsylvania this fall, laying off 107
workers.
The plant, in Scott Technology Park near Scranton in Lackawanna County, will close by Sept. 30., and the local work will
transferred to Indianapolis and Iola, Kan. Herff Jones did not say whether the closure would affect local employment.
The company, which has about 3,500 employees at 22 U.S. locations, produces yearbooks, diplomas, instructional and recognition-oriented
materials for schools and businesses. Officials cited business conditions for the closure and expressed regret over the effect
on employees.
Herff Jones opened a plant in Scranton in April 1970 and moved to Scott Township in September 2000.
