As expected, city leaders announced Wednesday morning that Irvington Preparatory Academy has agreed to occupy the former
Children’s Guardian Home on the east side of Indianapolis.
The charter high school is currently located at 6040 E. Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive near Arlington Avenue. Its space,
in turn, will be taken by Irvington Community Middle School, now part of a K-8 school at 6705 E. Julian Ave. Irvington Community
Elementary School will remain at that location, serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
IBJ reported the school moves on Tuesday afternoon.
Under the 15-year lease agreement, Irvington Community School will lease the building from the city at a cost of $1 annually.
The City’s Building Authority will manage the property’s utilities and cover building repairs the first year at
an estimated cost of just over $290,000. Irvington Community School will pay 50 percent of the maintenance agreement in monthly
installments beginning July 2012. In 2013, the school will cover all expenses for the building operations and maintenance.
Irvington Preparatory Academy serves just over 300 students, and operates year-round, offering a 197-day academic schedule
for students
