A company spokesman says General Motors Co. is reassessing operations at a plant in Kokomo.

GM spokesman Kevin Nadrowski says officials at the Kokomo Integrated Circuit Fab plant met with 375 workers Wednesday to
say they're "assessing the business model at the plant based on recent business developments."

Nadrowski wouldn't comment when asked if GM is considering closing the plant, which makes auto electronics.

Manufacturing-heavy Howard County had the state's third-highest unemployment rate in June, at 12.7 percent. Statewide,
the average rate was 10.1 percent.

Union leaders said 3,000 people applied for 300 openings at a Kokomo Chysler transmission plant earlier this month.

But there also has been some good news for the area: Colorado-based solar panel maker Abound Solar said it will take over the empty Getrag transmission
plant on U.S. 31 in Tipton County near Kokomo, creating as many as 850 jobs in the next three years.
