The sizzling summer is bringing near-record attendance to a southern Indiana water park as visitors seek ways to cool down
in the heat.
Park officials say attendance at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is running more than 10 percent ahead of last year.
General Manager Matt Eckert says attendance is nearing 1 million for the fifth straight year and the park will likely break
previous attendance records.
The park's new Wildebeest water coaster is a draw to some customers. Park spokeswoman Paula Werne says the water coaster
is operating at its capacity of 700 riders an hour, so shade and misting areas have been added to keep guests cool.
The water park about 35 miles east of Evansville also has wave pools, lazy rivers, water slides and children's areas.
In June, Holiday World made headlines across the state when CEO Will Koch, 48, died unexpectedly. His brother, Dan, took control of the family-owned attraction
later that month.
