Enrollment is growing in an online college that Indiana's governor has promoted.

WGU Indiana is a branch of Western Governors University, a private, not-for-profit university designed for working adults trying to earn bachelor's or master's degrees. WGU Indiana had about 500 students on Sept. 1, compared with about 275 students on June 1.

Gov. Mitch Daniels announced in June an agreement between the state and WGU Indiana that allows Indiana residents to use state scholarships to pay for tuition at the computer-based program. Daniels hoped the partnership would spur more adults to earn their degrees through the online program.

Tuition at WGU Indiana is about $6,000 a year. Students are charged a flat rate and move at their own pace instead of being charged per credit hour or semester.
