The Indiana Public Charter Schools Association says enrollment at the state's public charter schools rose from about 11,000 students in the 2007/08 school year to about 23,000 this year — or about a 110 percent increase.
The group says it's not just enrollment that's on the rise, but the waiting lists of students wanting to be admitted to one of the schools are also swelling.
The group says more than 3,500 students are on waiting lists to get into one of the state's 62 public charter schools.
