The job losses continue at the massive east-side Automotive Components Holdings facility that’s scheduled to close at the end of next year.

Officials at company, which makes hydraulic steering systems for Ford Motor Co., notified the state Department of Workforce Development this week that it plans to permanently lay off 26 employees during the first two weeks of 2011.

Last month, Ford said 249 workers would lose their jobs in mid-November.

The manufacturing facility at 6900 E. English Ave. is slated for closure by the end of 2011 because Ford is transitioning to electric power steering systems.

It originally was scheduled to close in 2008, but the United Auto Workers union struck a competitive operating agreement that extended their work.

All told, about 900 people, including 754 worker represented by the UAW, are losing their jobs. Union officials have said the plant will keep about 240 hourly employees in place during 2011.

Ford created Automotive Components in 2005 to buy back the assets of bankrupt spin-off Visteon Corp.
