The House transportation committee voted 10-2 Wednesday for the bill extending the state's current texting ban for drivers younger than 18.
Committee chairman Ed Soliday of Valparaiso rejected efforts to amend the bill to exempt police officers and other first-responders, saying the thought of an officer texting while on a high-speed chase was "frightening."
