State officials announced the expansion plans Friday morning.
Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company as much as $750,000 in performance-based tax credits based on job creation. Michigan City will provide an additional property-tax abatement at the request of the Michigan City Economic Development Corp.
Hearthside has 320 employees in Michigan City and plans to begin hiring additional production and supervisory workers in the second quarter of this year. The $3.8 million investment from the company will go toward construction of 23,000 square feet of additional production space for the addition of new snack-cake and cookie baking lines.
Headquartered in Downers Grove, Ill., Hearthside operates 12 manufacturing facilities in seven states. The company acquired the Michigan City facility in May as part of its acquisition of McComb, Ohio-based Consolidated Biscuit Co.
Hearthside bakes products for national snack food brands such as Keebler, Nabisco and Kraft.
