The Mind Trust, an Indianapolis-based not-for-profit that supports education reform, is sponsoring an art show March 6 at
the Harrison Center for the Arts that will feature education-related art and presentations by education fellows The Mind Trust
is funding.
Titled "Mind the Gap," the show will feature art by Harrison Center artists that addresses the educational achievement gap
between rich and poor students, and between whites and minorities.
And while guests sip wine, they can also witness a teacher training session conducted by Mind Trust fellow Celine Coggins.
The former Massachusetts middle school teacher is developing Teach Plus, a program to keep early career teachers in the profession.
Music students, who are working with Mind Trust fellow Michael Bitz to create their own sustainable record labels, will give
live performances.
"It’s a very unique and different way to feature the work of these entrepreneurs," said David Harris, CEO of The Mind Trust,
which he co-founded in 2006 with former Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson.
The art show is the creation of Harrison Center Executive Director Joanna Taft. She approached Harris for support.
The Mind Trust and Indianapolis Power & Light Co. are jointly giving $6,500 to sponsor the event. IPL CEO Ann Murtlow sits
on The Mind Trust’s board.
