Subscribe NowOnce a regional airline that flew only for big carriers under their brand names, Republic Airways Holdings took a chance when it bought Frontier Airlines and Midwest Airlines, which fly their own routes.
Airline wonks said at the time that carriers Republic flew for on a contract basis would balk at doing business with the Indianapolis company once it owned its own carriers.
That doesn’t appear to be the case with Republic customer Delta Air Lines, the nation’s biggest airline. Delta has agreed to amend its capacity agreement with Republic to add eight E170 aircraft to fly under Delta Connection. That brings to 48 the total regional aircraft Republic flies for Delta.
The deal “reaffirms our commitment and desire to be a solutions provider for our network airline partners,” said Republic Chairman Bryan Bedford.
Republic is pulling the E170s from its Frontier fleet, which will swap them for smaller E145 planes that were flown for Continental Airlines.
