Four Indiana-based companies, including three from Indianapolis, have been named among the “World’s Most Admired Companies” by Fortune magazine.

Simon Property Group Inc., WellPoint Inc. and Brightpoint Inc. of Indianapolis, and Columbus-based Cummins Inc. made the annual list of 350 companies, released Monday.

More than 4,100 executives, directors and securities analysts were asked to choose from among 1,400 companies to identify the businesses they admired the most, Fortune said. Companies on the survey included the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue.

None of Indiana’s selections were ranked among the top 50 most-admired companies.

Simon was ranked No. 1 in the real estate industry category. WellPoint finished fourth in the insurance and managed care category. Brightpoint was fifth in the wholesalers of electronics and office equipment category.

Cummins was fifth in the industrial and farm equipment industry.

Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. was not ranked among the top 350 companies, but was on the “contenders” list with an industry ranking of 10th.
