Bloomington-based Crider and Crider Inc. submitted the lowest bid for the Pike County project. The state Department of Transportation says the agency has awarded 11 of 15 contracts for the 142-mile interstate to Indiana firms at the lowest bid.
Environmentalists who oppose the I-69 project and have sued to stop its construction say it will destroy forests, wetlands and farmland. They also say it will create runoff from automobiles and road salt that could harm sensitive caves and springs in the southern Indiana.
