Battery maker Ener1 Inc. has fired Chief Operating Officer Rick Stanley, who was also president of the company's Indianapolis-based operation, EnerDel Inc.

The New York-based company disclosed Stanley's April 8 termination in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Wednesday. Stanley's departure came shortly after Ener1 announced Christopher Cowger as the new CEO of the local division, a position that was previously unfilled.

Stanley, a former president of Anderson-based Remy International Inc., joined Ener1 in fall of 2009 and was named COO last September as part of a management shakeup.

His separation agreement includes a $250,000 lump-sum payment and 20,000 shares of stock, Ener1's SEC filing said.

Ener1 has about 380 employees in facilities in Noblesville, Indianapolis and Mount Comfort.
