Church construction booms
There’s no building trades recession in Martinsville or Mooresville where the Lord is concerned. Three churches and a Christian camp all are planning big projects.
Church at Mount Gilead plans to build a worship center, vestibule and administrative offices at 6019 E. State Road 144 near Kitchen Road in Mooresville. The $9 million project, designed by Indianapolisbased ArcDesign, calls for about 50,500 square feet of additional space and renovation of another 8,000 square feet.
The church plans to begin construction sometime next year, said Philip Weidman, the executive minister. The new worship center will hold about 1,500 people.
Martinsville United Methodist Church is building a 25,000-square-foot
house of worship complete with multipurpose rooms and classrooms along State Road 37 near Myro Lane. The new church will hold more than 1,100 people.
First Church of the Nazarene at 1609 John R. Wooden Drive in Martinsville is planning $450,000 in remodeling work, prompted by a boiler explosion in December.
Highland Lakes Baptist Camp also is adding space in Martinsville. The facility, at 7605 State Road 39 North, is building a 7,500-square-foot welcome center.
