Growing pains for Morristown
The tiny town of Morristown is drawing a lot of interest from expansion-minded businesses.
Crane Werks, which repairs overhead cranes, wants the Morristown Town Council to give it tax abatements to buy an abandoned Nabisco building where it would expand its operations.
Also, Integrity Metals of Connersville has told town leaders it wants to locate a facility in a business park in Morristown. In 2007, the company asked the city of Shelbyville to annex 53 acres so it could start a steel scrap business.
Some potential neighbors of the facility have balked. In March, Don Hoban, owner of the Homespun Country Barn in Morristown, told town councilors the facility could increase pollution and truck traffic.
Both the Integrity Metals and the Crane Werks projects are proposed but not approved, said Tom Reber, Morristown’s clerk-treasurer.
