The accurate way to explain the effect of unfulfilled pledges is that United Way will not distribute $2.65 million to anyone, in anticipation that 6.9 percent of pledges made during the annual campaign will not be paid. Pledges to United Way are generally paid throughout the year. If we don’t receive it, we can’t spend it to address the community’s vital human needs.
