Patrick’s annual income is estimated at $12 million, trailing only tennis players Maria Sharapova ($25 million) and Caroline Wozniacki ($12.5 million).
Tennis players dominate the list, grabbing seven of the top 10 spots.
Forbes’ estimates are for the 12 months ending on July 1 and include the athletes’ salaries, prize money, appearance fees and endorsements.
Patrick, who’s competing in her seventh IndyCar Series season, has one victory and 60 top-10 finishes in 109 races.
Sources close to Patrick say she will leave the IndyCar Series for NASCAR next year, racing full time for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and racing a limited schedule for Stewart-Haas Racing in the top-tier Sprint Cup Series.
