The Herald-Times reports a committee of the Bloomington-Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization decided Friday to delay voting on the highway's Monroe County portion until November.
In May, the panel approved a revised local plan that omitted Monroe County's portion of I-69, citing concerns about how it will be funded, its environmental impact and the location of interchanges.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has asked the panel to add this section of I-69 and resubmit its plan.
The panel's decision came a day after federal officials approved construction plans for a 27-mile section of the highway from near the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center to just south of Bloomington.
The state highway department expected construction to start on that section by year's end.
Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan asked committee members to postpone a vote until November so that the state can answer questions about the project.
