its headquarters at Indiana University’s new National Sports Journalism Center.
The School of Journalism on the IUPUI campus
will be the first official home for APSE, which was founded 35 years ago and now includes more than 550
members, including virtually all the top print and online sports news executives in America.
As part of this affiliation, IU and APSE will erect a Hall of Fame in the new Student Media Center
on the IUPUI campus that will honor the winners of the prestigious Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement
in sports journalism. APSE initiated the award in 1981, and it is widely regarded as the top honor in
sports journalism today.
Gildea to receive ‘PR Legend Award’
Robert L. Gildea will be honored as the recipient
of the 2009 Indy PR Legend Award June 17 by the Indianapolis Public Relations Society.
Gildea, senior vice president of Sease Gerig
& Associates, anIndianapolis-based public relations and management consulting firm, has been with
the firm and its predecessor, Howard S. Wilcox Inc., since 1971.
Gildea served two terms as president of the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional
Journalists and worked to create the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame, which is at DePauw University.
