Indianapolis-based Fortune Industries Inc. on Wednesday morning reported profit of nearly $1.3 million for its latest fiscal year.

The professional employer organization’s profit during the 2011 fiscal year that ended June 30 more than doubled from fiscal year 2010. Annual earnings were 9 cents per share compared with 4 cents per share in fiscal 2010.

Revenue increased nearly 6 percent, to $64.3 million.

The number of Fortune "worksite" employees grew from 13,956 to 15,030 during the past fiscal year. Worksite employees are those that work for client companies of the PEO.

Fortune provides services to small and medium-sized business clients in 47 states, including human-resources consulting and management, employee assessment, training, and benefits administration.

Fortune shares were up 7 cents in mid-morning trading, to 57 cents each.
