The move comes as the company is winding down work on a multiyear contract to make sophisticated radios for use by combat troops. Company spokesman Tim White told The Journal Gazette that the employees notified Wednesday about the job cuts include 95 temporary workers hired over the summer who knew those were short-term positions.
The cuts will leave ITT Exelis with about 1,500 employees in Fort Wayne. The company laid off about 360 workers last December.
The company was spun off last month from ITT Corp. White said the company is working to make a transition to making new products during a difficult time in the defense industry.
