The deal with the unit of General Electric Co. will bring in a consulting team with fuel-spending software, which Republic hopes will allow it to reduce fuel spending by an average of 3 percent. With fuel as one of the largest expenses — often the single largest — at any airline, even a small-percentage reduction can yield big financial benefits.
Indianapolis-based Republic is a fly-for-hire unit that feeds passengers to major airlines such as Delta and United, and it also operates Frontier Airlines. Republic has been restructuring Frontier's finances and is looking to separate it through a sale or spinoff.
