The Indiana House and Senate were scheduled to gavel in the start of the 2012 session Wednesday afternoon. One of the first bills that legislative committees will take up this week will be a right-to-work proposal. The proposal, which bans labor contracts that require employees to pay union fees, prompted last year's five-week walkout by House Democrats and drew large crowds of union protesters.
An AFL-CIO spokesman said the group didn't have a rally planned Wednesday but encouraged its members to show up at the Statehouse to try to speak with lawmakers.
