Chrysler spokeswoman Mary Beth Halprin told the Tribune that production schedules are set on Thursdays, and that Chrysler could take into account December sales – which were down 53 percent – as it decides what to do next week.
Chrysler idled 29 factories, including Kokomo Transmission Plant, Kokomo Casting Plant, and Indiana Transmission Plants I and II, on Dec. 19.
The four plants in Kokomo employ about 6,300 people.
United Auto Workers Region 3 Director Mo Davison told IBJ this morning he spoke with union officials in Detroit late Wednesday, and there had been no indication from Chrysler that they would delay re-starting production in Kokomo on Jan. 20.
“I’m confident, if there’s going to be a deviation from that, we’d have known that already,” he said.
Kokomo makes all Chrysler transmissions, so its work depends on production at assembly plants around the country. Davison said Chrysler is planning to reopen all but a few of its assembly plants on Tuesday.
